How is Marathon Therapy structured? What to expect?

Marathon Therapy is a 2 days intensive therapy in Singapore.

Marathon Couples Therapy is an innovative and highly successful approach to couple distress recovery that consists of 2 days in which you and your partner engage with our psychologist in intensive marital therapy for 6  hours per day broken down into 90 – 120 minute sessions. This is a very intensive process so the day is split with regular breaks and opportunities to take time out and reflect.

Prior to your marathon we email you and your partner a thorough questionnaire for each of you to complete.

Following your marathon we usually recommend  a few appointments either in person or via web conferencing a fortnight later and then monthly "top-up” web conferencing appointments until you both feel like you can implement the relationship processes consistently well.

What are the benefits of Marathon Therapy compared to the regular weekly sessions?

1. Marathon Therapy allows couples with conflicting agendas in SIngapore or living in another region to benefit from therapy with an efficient format.

2. Research says that therapy is more effective the more sessions closer to one another are we at the beginning of the process.

3.  The intensive therapy format encourages the couple to focus only on their couple and share  the same agenda  for 2 days.

4. Many couples reported that it triggered less frustration knowing they won't have to wait another week or two before addressing the issues raised in session.

Who is Marathon Couples Therapy suitable for?

Couples that participate in Marathon Therapy in singapore receive a scientific evaluation of their relationship.

Our comprehensive relationship assessment will pinpoint the areas in which you can achieve the greatest growth so you can move forward to a place of strength, reconnection, and hope.

Who is it NOT suitable for?

Should you have any questions regarding the following issues, please contact our psychologist in Singapore for clarification about whether Marathon Therapy is suitable for your situation. These issues are:

  • If there is active alcohol and/or drug addiction on the part of either or both partners, from either partner’s perspective
  • If there is serious violence in your relationship, threats by one or both partners that serious violence might occur, or fear of such serious violence on the part of one or both partners
  • If either partner currently has an untreated major mental illness (schizophrenia, recurrent psychotic depression, or bipolar/manic-depressive illness.) Note: This does not include past, successfully treated psychotic episodes (e.g. post-partum depression with psychosis)
  • If there is an undisclosed, current affair that you are not willing to disclose (such secrets predict marital therapy failure)
  • If either partner is currently experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or has a history of serious harm inflicted on him/herself or another person
